The Onion’s take on the Subway Series

The Onion’s take on the Subway Series

fuckyeahbaseball:

I seriously urge all my followers to watch this video.  It is seriously one of the biggest fails in baseball history, but left me laughing the ENTIRE time.
18.08.85 East Rutherford, NJ, intro to “Glory Days”
“Are my people out there? (crowd cheers) good..(Bruce leads the crowd in the sing-along) alright, you sound good (crowd cheers)… now this is a song…about Father Time…about time’s winged chariot …it’s about getting old…oh yeah…I’m talking old, man…I’m talking, like, I’m old, I’m 35 now…anybody out there as old as me? (some cheers) hey, alright, alright, my brothers, my sisters (chuckles) but now the Big Man – let me see…well, the Big Man, he is…he is…he is much older than me (chuckles) but somehow he always maintains his youthful beauty all the time (crowd cheers)(?) Tom Saber, he’s forty, right? he got his 300th victory…that’s not so bad…anyway… gonna do this for all you old guys out there (chuckles) if you got your kids with you or if you’re married…you’re a husband (chuckles) like me, this is for you out there tonight (crowd cheers) are you ready, people? (crowd cheers) are you ready back there? (crowd cheers)…

Bruce Springsteen mentions Tom Seaver’s 300th Win Onstage in 1985

It’s not “Saber,” of course, but the guy who does this research is Finnish, there is no way he could know.

And yes, he was a few days off.

(I did not find this, someone else did)

It is in some ways a relief to know he was always a fairweather baseball fan.

Say what you want about giving closers big money, but this man can pitch.

Many of the strange songs on the iPod are there not so much because I like them, but mostly because I like the bizarre and funny memories attached to them: Like, one time I saw Luis Castillo shaking his tail-feathers to the Snakes on a Plane song. Ergo, the Snakes on a Plane song is on my iPod. This seems perfectly logical to me.

Oh, it’s THOSE Girls

Anything that reminded me of Luis Castillo dancing would be banished to the hinterlands. However, I will remind myself that he still had his defensive skills when he was on the Twins.

oriolesmagic:
Aubrey Huff, apparently Luis Castillo’s BFF.

what was that score again?

probably the only member of the Mets right now I am am not unconditionally mad at (although I cannot ever be angry at Johan Santana, and find it hard to be upset with Carlos Beltran)
